Dubai is part of UAE. The UAE provides an interesting example of how a trade based and oil-reliant economy is in transition into one that is service and tourism orientated. It is pursuing proactive economic diversification policies to reduce its dependence of oil and gas revenues. Essentially, the UAE has been investing heavily in infrastructure, tourism, manufacturing, and financial services. Dubai, for example, has changed dramatically over the last three decades, becoming a major business center. It enjoys a strategic location and serves as the biggest re-exporting center in the Middle East. The city now has thriving manufacturing, finance, information technology, property, and tourism sectors, and is home to numerous multinational companies such as General Motors, IBM, Shell, and Sony.
