About 12 months or so ago Ok Tedi mine completed a 3 year fuel supply contract (diesel I think) to run the mine - in addition to the hydro. They were previously considering Stanley gas supply as an alternate source of energy until everything came to a sudden stop.
Maybe the Government is pushing for the gas supply to Ok Tedi and the local community to be put back onto the agenda to appease the locals.
