Your long-term view is consistent with Harry S. Dents' views about a protracted bear market beginning late this decade and lasting for a decade. His work is based upon demographics (the retirement of the baby boomers) and economics (slow-down in productivity gains from major recent innovations such as computers.) His most recent book was called The Next Great Bubble Boom... I highly recommend it.
