LA...you're dead right about the mind-set regarding "free" education...

Yeah...free to me ...let some othe poor sucker pay for my ed.
The best thing to hit education in Oz is HECS!
User pays....and when they can afford it, they pay a small percentage.
Only those with a "welfare" mentality can argue that thatis not an equitable sytem
And the poor diddums have an education debt at the beginning of their life?
So friggin what.....they've had 4 years out of the woirk force.....they now have line on employment that places them levels above those who dont have a degree....and they're almost certainly on a career path that will bring them multiples of earnings compared to those who dont...
and they want all that for FREE>>>>>give me a break!
...so where's the problem????
I've lost count of the number of people I've spoken to over the years who said they started Uni but dropped out over the fisrt couple of years or who actually finished a degree and within about 5 years was working somewhere completely different because they decided it wasnt for them.
Fine...make all the choices you want.
But pay for them yourself!
The new HECS will hopefully eliminate those who just go on to Uni cause they dont want to go to work or they think this is a degree they may want to get.
If they want it...like everything else in life - pay for it!
