ASIO were and are useless as intelligence gatherers. The case in point - bugging elected politicians - is a good example.
I can recall not one single instance where ASIO have detected a real danger to the country and been able to act. I had a job with NSW Police at one time integrating databases with the Federal Police - what a laugh - all the police forces hate and mistrust each other.
ASIO are sort of private dicks for powerful people to spy on each other. Should be sent to Iraq.
