I spent several years running the Kapuni Gas Treatment Plant as a Team Leader as well as working offshore on the FPSO Umuroa.

A vision I have had since coming across Hazer is that it could one day integrate into the local industry in a somewhat circular nature.

Kapuni would be the ideal base, a gas field and processing hub, connected by pipeline to basically every large energy user in the North Island, a pipeline that has a tolerance hydrogen. It’s also home a large ammonia urea plant and a few km of pipeline away from Fonterra who operate a centrally locates fleet of around 800 trucks. Around 50km to the North, also connected by pipeline you have a large Methanol production plant.

Start putting the pieces together and you have, methane, a number of potential hydrogen users (ammonia urea, methanol, vehicle) as well as a potential vertical for the graphite which can be tailored for high surface area and blended with Urea to produce a slow burn fertiliser which gradually increases the productivity of the soil.

I’ve previously posted a few times around the benefits of Biochar, while hazers graphite would never be classed as actual Biochar due to origin, it’s characteristics are likely to fulfill the requirements. Research has shown that biochar reduces the GHG emissions from cows, increases weight gain, reduces soil emissions and increases the overall soil condition.

The above in mind, imagine a Hazer plant that from methane makes hydrogen for the ammonia plant, the methanol plant and Fonterras (and others) trucking fleet/s. Graphite/Carbon/Biochar for addition to stock feed and fertiliser as well as some perhaps dedicated to batteries?

These sort of circular opportunities are exactly where I see Hazer fitting within the future Energy balance.

Michael for CEO! At the very least I hope HZR are taking notice of your posts. So much potential, yes.

Fonterra's milk truck fleet running out of Hawera would be a perfect trial. This is getting really interesting, especially when we now see (thanks Michaeljob and Low Key) that Hiringa are already well connected with the Hazer team.
