While I agree with your sentiments, the question that kept coming to mind during the show was, if these muslims kids truely seek to be part of the wider society why is it that they don't engage with it on a one to one basis.
The most obvious example of this was the boxing gym that was set up. It was set up for muslim kids, yet there are "mixed" boxing gyms everywhere. Surely they would be doing themselves & their communities far greater good by using existing "broad spectrum" sporting facilities where they can engage with their fellow citizens in an activity of common interest and in so doing build understanding and acceptance.

It seems to me that a lot of the "spokespeople" for "the community" may have a vested interest in keeping "their" people segregated. I was appalled to hear them constantly brainwashing the young people that they are oppressed, victimised, etc etc. While there are no doubt many instances of this happening, it also happens in all "communities" eg surfers used to get "special" treatment from the law (coppers) because they had long hair & were perceived as bums.

In short it's up to them to have the desire to engage with the wider society as much as it for the rest of society to be open to them.

As for the rednecks (that the media adore) I think the vast majority of society cringe when a microphone is put in front of them.
