That's not to say that all modern democracies have to be on constant alert to watch out for those who have no compunction in destroying or eroding our hard won democratic way of life e.g. the grossly misnamed 'Media Reform'. From the Australian March, 2013:
'Michael Schilling, Millswood, SA
HEARING Stephen Conroy unconvincingly promote the urgent need for media reform, you would conclude the real agenda is media suppression. If you don't like what media organisations say about you, simply make life hard for them.
The late Venezuelan Marxist leader Hugo Chavez would be proud of Conroy's mimicry of his media suppression approach. Conroy has forgotten that in 1992 his party and two pieces of legislation were defeated in two High Court cases on freedom of expression. If such stupid and anti-democratic legislation is unfortunately passed by parliament, the High Court may be the only defence.'
