I’ve been hearing that since before the GFC. Built my home back in Melb (now the investment) back in 2007 for roughly $300k... currently valued at $860k as I got a valuation done in June as was considering selling it.
Property here on Sunshine Coast has gone up $100k in about 2 years also
Apartments different story... I have never heard of anyone making money on an apartment. I know people on Gold Coast who got into new towers and paid top dollar only to sell later at a loss. One of them substantial loss of $120k.
Buy/build a house in good spot with commute to large city (jobs)/close to beach/close to good schools or find up and coming spot and no issues.
Chinese still buying up a storm... they don’t care about the $5k per annum when leaving a house empty... they more concerned about investing outside of China.
