Telstra is such a big ship that it's very hard to know and control what everybody is doing at any one time.

This kind of blunder doesn't instill any kind of confidence that Telstra is able to deliver what it promises under its Telstra2022 strategy.

It is a fact that inside Telstra there are a lot of deadwood that needs clearing. However, in reality, alongside the real deadwood, there will also be quite a few quality staff that will get swept along in this purge of 9,500 employees. Losing these quality staff will be Telstra's losses.

Meanwhile, there will also be people who are supposed to be the ones to be purged first who will survive this restructuring. These people are like "cockroaches" who can still survive a nuclear attack. These people are usually very good at talking, networking, sucking up and backstabbing, but if you dig deeper, the knowledge bank inside is rather empty.
