Treggs - I mentioned the spike thingies trading strategy for the XJO earlier today. Here is an explanation of what I do with XJO. It is by no means my only trade signal/entry method (as you well know) but it is one of a number that works for me. I also use it with some commodities and stocks but they have to be very liquid for the strategy to work without excessive whipsaws.

I've found with position and swing trading, if you can find strategies which give reliable signals you only need to get a signal every month or so and you are in the market a fair bit of the time. Trade a fair number of securities and you have lots of open positions and have spread your risk.

You might consider the merits of trading longer time-frames if day-trading frustrates you?!?
