I think you are correct on the distributor model, it may be a slower but a much more leaner way to market, they could have some reps themselves too and just focus on key areas.
It sounds like the US sales are doing well, and they are losing in Europe (maybe shut Europe down and become profitable in the US, then scale regions?)
On the Lemaitre earnings call they stated it takes 9 months to make sales staff productive.
