ALLIED Gold’s Simberi Project in PNG’s Tabar Islands looks set to reach its annual gold production target this year while recent exploration drilling shows more favourable results.

From February 1 to March 14 some 13,140oz of gold were produced representing some 15% of the company’s previously reported target for the year, with 6162oz of gold poured.
The new process plant at Simberi went through 120,000 dry tonnes of ore, processed at an average head grade of 3.93 grams per tonne gold.
Average throughput is 174 dry tonnes per hour at 70% of nameplate capacity. Metallurgical recoveries worked to plan and head grades had positive reconciliations to the ore reserve model.
Drilling southeast of the Sorowar deposit found more oxide mineralisation outside the pit design with best intersection results of 22m at 1.06gpt gold from 28m depth, 7m at 1.21gprt gold from 20m and 24m at 1.41gpt from 24m.
With the recent results, published oxide resources put Sorowar at 175 million tonnes at an average grade of 1.21gt gold for 681,000oz over a 700m strike length.
Exploration outside the current mining at Samat point to extensions of the South Samat deposit with best results including intersections of 8m at 5.51gpt gold from 1m within a broader 20m zone at 2.27gpt gold intercept from the surface and 7m at 4.49gpt gold from 1m within a broader 20m zone at 1.47gpt gold intercept from the surface.
Drilling at the Adora prospect adjacent to the Samat deposits showed scattered and thin gold mineralisation with best intersections at hole RC1404 of 6m at 2.18gpt from 7m depth, hole RC1406 of 17m at 1.19gpt from 16m depth and hole RC1409 of 3m at 1.19gpt from the surface.
