I did have a close look at the route some time back going south by barge (here).
I did find sections that were pretty narrow but also read of barges making the trip. I still do not know which path exactly the tin mine output took from Myumba decades ago. I do however suspect it was south, as going north past Kongolo, the river become unnavigable with rapids. Some other interesting stuff....
Another map from Oct 2015 (found here) showing the road to Myumba in 'good condition' while the northern parts of road 617 as 'bad'. That's interesting because a barge solution could start hauling immediately. Food for thought
