Mate, snake is terrible. The preferred one that I have seen eaten most is the file snake.

Croc is terrible as well. Really dry.

Due to the drop in numbers, my people stopped hunting turtle and dugong when I was little, so I only ate them a few times.

While I was up the islands, I saw some Aboriginals with a dugong and a turtle they had hunted and were chopping up on the beach. It was pretty upsetting the way they were doing it. We tried (my cousin and I) to have a chat to them in the local Creole but they didn't understand a word. They turned out to be Kooris (from NSW) and they were taking esky loads of meat down to Sydney to sell, apparently to Chinese who wanted to eat exotic animals. It was sickening. China Girl was particularly angry.

I spoke to a mate who is a native ranger up there and he said there is nothing they can do about it. The law allows us to hunt in a traditional manner, and there is no distinction based on where you are from. I don't know what was traditional about what was going on, 14' tinny and a .410 shotgun. Mate reckoned no point doing anything about it as the police prosecutors won't enforce it anymore as the magistrates are too worried about being called racist. If something doesn't happen about it soon, it could get nasty up there.

On the other hand, magpie geese are awesome to eat.

    Sorry for the rant.
