Your posts seem to be contradictory, I'm not sure whether you're saying it would or wouldn't be due to an 'intelligent' decision or due to 'automatic' re-balancing.
Anyway, to address your latter post, even if S&P only announce the weightings every 3 months it would not be hard to calculate them using market cap.
