MELBOURNE (Dow Jones)--Centro Properties Group (CNP.AU) said Friday it's working on an extension to the A$2.3 billion owed to an Australian banking syndicate.

"The banks haven't formally extended the financing deadline beyond April 30, but they have begun work on the extension," a Centro spokesman said. "It's still being negotiated."

The spokesman said the local banks are looking to extend the repayment in line with the Sept. 30. refinancing deadline for debt owed to U.S. banks and bond holders.
