Former Victorian Liberal premier Ted Baillieu has slammed his party for its "problem" with women, labelling the resignation of federal MP Julia Banks a "wake-up call" for Liberals and their leadership.
Ms Banks announced on Wednesday she would quit Parliament at the election, citing "intimidation", "bullying" and "bad behaviour" by colleagues who rallied the numbers to oust Malcolm Turnbull as prime minister.
"Last week's events were the last straw," she said in a statement, which sparked internal debate on the position of women in the Liberal Party, particularly in Victoria.

In what appeared to be a thinly-veiled swipe at state president Michael Kroger, Mr Baillieu said there was a “hang up" about women in some components of the Liberal Party and its leadership."
