OK while everyone is in a good mood, having fun predicting the future and counting partially hatched chickens- here’s a challenge for anyone who’s game. Tomorrow (Thursday) is results day. Don’t panic, you haven’t forgotten an upcoming announcement date- I’m talking about when the ASX publishes the total short positions as they stood after last Friday’s crazy day. So who wants to have a stab at guessing what the nett reduction of total shorts was on Friday? I’m guessing there was a whole lot of shorters stops hit after the huge gap up on opening…
Here’s a bit of info to help:
Total shorts Wednesday 22/8 was 75.89M, and total shorts Thursday 23/8 was 72.23M, so nett shorts reduction on Thurs 23/8 was 3.66M shares on total ASX volume of ~10.7M
Crazy Friday 24/8 total ASX volume was 58.76M shares, with 14M traded in the first 20 minutes.
First 5 mins volume 3.51M Price 1.35 – 1.405
Second 5 mins volume 4.4M Price 1.425 – 1.20
Third 5 mins volume 2.86M Price 1.265 – 1.19
Fourth 5 mins volume 3.217M Price 1.23 – 1.19
My guess is shorts reduced by 15M on Friday- any better guesses?
