As I proceed to progress through the wealth of information regarding the tenements that are now in front of us, I have discovered an extract that might help identify the Cheritons Project mentioned in the tenements list. It's from an old Sons of Gwalia report for the third quarter in 1999 which locates from what I can see , the cheritons project in amongst a large number of gold mines which can be seen in the annual report from last night, in an area along a ridge with numerous gold mines that Gonadwana is well tenemented amongst as part of the parker range gold district
quote extract...."Redwing Prospect (Sons of Gwalia 75%): Reverse circulation drilling in the Cheritons Project, 30
kilometres south of the Star Mill, has intersected a
zone of mineralisation at the Redwing Prospect over a
strike length of 480 metres. Intersections included:
2m @ 15.53 g/t gold from 52m
3m @ 6.52 g/t gold from 77m
5m @ 12.68 g/t gold from 44m
6m @ 18.42 g/t gold from 18m
(including 1m @ 102.30 g/t gold)
9m at 21.07 g/t gold from 43m
(including 2m @ 91.24 g/t gold)
Mineralisation is hosted in a supergene zone and in
underlying steeply dipping quartz veins. Further
drilling is planned to test the depth and strike potential
of the mineralised zone." end quote.
Figure 1 on page 4 of the annual report shows the extensive gold mining along what appears to be a fault line from trough well in the north through southern cross, marvel loch and into the Gondwanaland tenements which can be seen in closer detail on page 5 figure 2, cheritons is the southern most. The horse shoe shaped tenement and green stone also appears to have Banded Iron Formation which can indicate Iron Ore. The Mt Caudan iron ore in the jv with Cazaly is in the light yellow zone which we know does have Fe in the ground and since iron ore has only in recent years been a target, I am interested to see what testing has been done in the BIF greenstone belts Gondwana are sitting on. Most of the data was recorded for gold and nickel so I will be asking David Burton what plans they have to explore for iron ore in the large number of tenements Gondwana has that are in our ownership for their gold exploration and mining. I would hate to think we do what Flinders did and give away an iron ore resource like Fortescue has scored for next to nicks.
Page 6 of the report talks about BIF ( Banded Iron Formations) at Buffalo, Springhill and Centenary. The gold might be great but I'll put my hand up at a general meeting to test for iron ore.
