I agree Moly, I have an account with BellDirect, but the whole Cash Account being effectively a loan to Bell Financial got me a bit uncomfortable so I withdrew my money.

I come from Geelong so I remember the Pyramid Building Society collapse, only lost a couple of bucks thank god, but it sticks in my mind to only stick with the big brands.

I was with Sandford because your money was with BankWest, but now of course I'm with Comsec. Moved my money into a CDIA account and out of BankWest as their owner HBOS are said to be on the rocks (Regardless of what rubbish they make up).

As this is only the beginning of this economic down leg I have spread my money as I expect that in a year or two a deposit institution will go under in Australia, seen it all before.

And with all these people finding themselves in trouble because of debt, the amount of debt outstanding for margin loans to buy shares is increasing. Looks like a good rally to sell into at the moment.
