Although it is not entirely clear from the announcement, I think you will find that David Sweet didn't sell the shares, the bank did! As far as I can tell from the opes related press and announcements, DS had put up the CMO shares as collateral for his margin loan with OP. Unfortunately for OP clients, their shares (apparently) became the property of the banks (merryl lynch, and ANZ) who have sold them, regardless of how much the individual clients of OP may have owed in margin loans...
