Let me try to use an example to paraphrase what you said by using transport industry rather than aerospace industry:

You were essentially saying a fully funded car manufacturer who is aiming to provide the most cost-effective and long lasting cars for the whole world to meet their luxury use is still struggling to be profitable (umm.... yes they are still testing their cars) and a small family-run garage workshop who is aiming to manufacture low-cost bicycle to sell to third-world county poor people to meet their essential everyday travel needs has no chance to be profitable at all? The logic does not make full sense when you are comparing two entirely different industries and individual markets.
