Marcus has been a bit reflective lately. In my opinion this 'adversarial' article is not about his daughter or other millennials or Afterpay or Zip Money or banks -
but about his own experience with debt and being on the opposite side of compound interest for most of his life (like myself). I don't see this article being 'adversarial to millennials at all, or Afterpay for that matter - I think Marcus is picking up on the millennial generation's tendency to shun debt (relative to his generation) which I'm guessing is a big part of his thesis for investing in Afterpay. What he is suggesting is that it may well be more profitable, in the long run, to put compounding to work for us rather than the banks and part of that is to break the 'have now' mentality which is common to all generations. Afterpay is part of that mentality - that's all - and I'm sure he would agree a much better alternative to paying interest but not necessarily buying shares for example. Anyway that's my take. I enjoy Marcus's articles because they challenge existing mantras (e.g. pragmatic views on market timing, stock/portfolio management etc)
