I agree that FAR do will require a consolidation, that's a given. I don't agree that having more shares will value barrels of oil any differently which is the metric used to value oil companies.
You're last paragraph on shorts makes zero sense.
If FAR had 500 million shares and 2% were shorted makes no difference if there was 5 billion and 2% shorted.......
The value and amount shorted would still be 2% in either scenario. DB
