65% Fe Blast Furnace Pellet (Code MBIOI-PT): US$159.61 per dry tonne 11 September 2018

    66% Fe Concentrate (Code MBIOI-CO): US$98.74 per dry tonne 11 September 2018

62% Fe Pilbara Blend Fines (Code MBIOI-PBF): US$66.70 per dry tonne 11 September 2018

    58% Fe Fines (Code MBIOI-58): US$38.78 per dry tonne 11 September 2018

SIMEC owns a pellet plant at Whyalla, the magnetite is then pelletised and used as feedstock in the Whyalla steelwork’s blast furnaces.

Benefits of using pellets: pellets are a better feed for iron making as compared to other feeds due to its various benefits, which includes uniform size, high metallisation rate, increased permeability in blast furnaces to optimise fuel consumption rate among others.

The iron ore pellet industry with the current capacity of ~800 Mt is experiencing a strong and growing demand and as a consequence, the pellet premiums in 2017-18 have reached the highest levels in the past decade.
