Interesting..would be curious if this means pet owners become more brand aware and choose the ones that are not manufactured by Mars .[/QUOTE
The megaoesophagus cases are perplexing. From what I’m told they are struggling to find the link, however there is a clear correlation between the cases and the brands and products consumed.
This raises interesting issues. Mars, Hills and other global pet food manufacturers have very significant research facilities in The US, Europe and Australia. The foods they produce along with the clinical diets have a very deep and long cycle of of continuous research and meet industry standards and certification.
Now, compare these products with the contract manufactured pet foods being sold as home brands by Yantai China Pet Foods or Petpal pet nutrition PRC. These are the manufacturers of a number of the in house home brands in pet stores and supermarkets. Does anybody think that these contract manufacturers have any level of the detail research, development and good manufacturing processes that Mars, Hills and like undertake.
There has already been evidence of melamine contamination to increase the protein levels in PRC sourced pet foods.
The small amount of noise around Mars foods at the moment will disappear quickly. Will have no affect on sales. The bigger issue is the contract manufacturer foods and small boutique pet food brands that dont meet any of the global industry standards or even take scientific and veterinary advice on their product compositions.
