Good point ... I have had a good look around the Wairakei conventional geothermal project in the middle of the north island of New Zealand ... I think it supplies something like 10% of all NZ electricity.
That project is conventional and wells are typically up to 2000 to 2500m deep and harness volcanically heated water/steam.
It is quite overpowering and inspiring (imo lol) to walk around the well field and see the venting and hear the noise of super heated steam and to appreciate what an awesome energy source it is.
I start from a view that geothermal works a treat and that hotrocks is just a technical variation on a proven theme.
