The trouble with TV is that, when it comes to news, it believes its own myth that a picture is worth a thousand words. Total fiction.
The commercial channels have always fed this to the chooks and consecutive ABC managements have tagged along hoping it would boost ratings.
The best news analysis comes in the spoken word either in discussion, which must be balanced, or in comment from intelligent knowledgeable people. A wealth of informatio to be had in podcasts.
The ABC will only ever have a small audience and it should serve & nurture that with good information, the best drama & comedy from everywhere (when does the AbC ever screen a foreign film . . .or any film?), and a lot of docos on every subject but politics.
It will never do big sport because that is all about big money which it doesn't have.
But it is a necessary institution, part of our heritage, and mustn't be allowed to be torn down either from the outside or the inside.

completely agree except the ABC news and current affairs has been taken over by Sydney inner city left wing activists who have little in common with real life and until that rabble is removed the ABC will always be seen as untrustworthy in its news and documentaries. They have been caught out too many times with lies .
