Timothy Brown was cured after a stem cell bond marrow transplant from a donor who was immune to HIV by virtue of the CCR5 gene. It's still not fully understood.

Macrophage reservoirs are a good start to helping eliminate hidden virus. Like other viral cures and controls, BIT225 will be part of a multi pronged attack. I can see a combo of reservoir acting compounds, together with ART and other compounds/therapies that 'scare' virus out of the reservoirs and into the blood. Someone will find the magic bullet soon I'm sure .......but pharma would rather use control strategies than cures at ths stage. Sad but true.
