Qualifications are overrated. More often than not the unqualified guy is there because he is the main driver of progress while the other qualified guys sit around and self congratulate.
Qualified guys manage most of mining, what a bunch of no talent morons. I think they are told the are the cream of the crop and leaders at uni, which will never be true for most, and most cant manage a business after 20 years experience.
Most of the successful mining contracting companies are built by guys without degrees that actually know how to do the jobs, which the industry relies on to lead, then dismisses them. Once the company gets big enough and employs qualified guys the quality of work turns to shite.
And don't get me started on ISO9001, its a cancer. 99% of these companies can pass an audit but completely balls up the actual work in the field. I had to get a faulty piece of new equipment fixed recently and the ISO company who supplied to was too busy with an ISO audit to help me, and there crap gear held up earthworks on a site for 2 shifts.
