But consider this, if you or I were involved in a brawl, resulting in someone being hospitalised, and who had actually passed away at the scene (again, according to news reports), before being revived, would you not expect the authorities to take a bit more of a cautionary stance?

According to paramedics who attended at the scene and worked on David, he passed away at the scene, but through 30+ minutes of applied CPR, was resuscitated and then taken to The Alfred.

Such an assault, irrespective of anything else, would at very least occasion investigation of (and consideration) as to whether a GBH charge should have been brought.

At least, that's what they taught me in Criminal Law back at Adelaide Uni in the early 80s.

As for the bouncer scene being regulated, one of the current pet hates of Premier Rann in South Australia is his concerns regarding the pub /bouncer scene there being infiltrated and run by Bikie Gangs.

Truth or not, the bouncer scene is nowhere near as heavily regulated or controlled as other security related professions.

But, as you have said - there are a number of information gaps which need to be filled. But these gaps do not only concern the patrons who were there, they also concern the use and application of force by the security staff /bouncer in question.
