Jim
I am sure that there is no granite overburden at Leigh Creek. The Telford Basin is a sedimentary sequence, and contains mainly coal and shale, with a little fine sand, but no granite.
There may be granite under the basin, at some point, but definitely not above the coals.
On the CO2, the company did get a license for CO2 storage if I recall. The plan was to re-inject the CO2 underground, to mitigate the impact of these emissions. It could also be paid to store 3rd party emissions. It would be expensive to do this, but if there is a price on carbon, it simply becomes an economic trade-off.
Cheers, AL
