    The whole idea of this thread is silly.
    Yes NBN will be privatised by the government, this was clear from the start given the NBN Co structure. I would guess this will most likely happen in a public float.

    The goal however is to have a similar setup to New Zealand where the infrastructure companies are separate from the retail service providers (in NZ Chorus owns most of the fibre and Spark and others are the major RSPs). Similarly, the hope is that NBN Co will be the major infrastructure owner with very strict regulations that effectively mandate its pricing, while Telstra, Optus, TPG and Vocus act primarily as RSPs.

    Even beyond this, the fact that Telstra is planning to separate it's infra-co business for a potential spin off should tell you that the idea of purchasing NBN Co is not being considered. This is before ACCC concerns of a returning monopoly are considered.
