Re the Westport Shed,one has to remember that Solid had the rail tied up and were only going to let Pike and Bathurst in at a price!
Bathurst needed independence from Solid and Westport - Port Taranaki was an alternative and gave them self control......then as we all know the price of coal went belly up.
