well, perhaps you need to examine what you just said - because it tells you a hell of a lot probably about people who do real Phd's -- the ones you just described and medical doctors in general

your family and friends are fully entitled (no pun) to use their title


one might want to look at the mistake rates, death, injuries and mis diagnoses rates of what we call 'doctors' today to see where the real expertise lies --- have a go at this lot for a start
