Personally I lay most of the blame for this debacle in Wentworth at the feet of Mathias Cormann. His flip flopping during the leadership crisis by abandoning Malcolm Turnbull and his  subsequent appalling  performance in the Senate supporting the "It's ok to be white" motion in the final days of the election campaign was disgraceful.

From reports it appears that support for Kerryn Phelps gained significant traction in the final days of the campaign which most probably explains to some extent the LNP support in  early postal and pre polling  voting.

As far as Malcolm Turnbull's reaction and that of his son I don't see a problem. As many have stated, Malcolm Turnbull made it perfectly clear he would resign from Parliament in the event he lost the ballot. His son has every right to voice an opinion contrary to what many may want to hear.

Tony Abbott's daughter voiced her support for  the SSM vote in defiance of her father. And I don't think Peter and Tim Costello agreed on anything. Tim Costello was often chastising the LNP.

Kerryn Phelps was in the right place at the right time.

    Only IMO.
