Depends. In theory we should be at the same point of the RE cycle as 1989. Wild speculation followed by rising interest rates. The point of difference will be whether we get an early 1990's sort of recession. We may not. Chances are we get an agricultural boom on top of the resources boom. With such once-in-a-lifetime favourable terms of trade, we could see an unprecedented rise in incomes and living standards.
For all we know, we could become the Saudi Arabia of the 21st century. We certainly own more resources per capita than the Arabs ever had in oil.
