I think your confusing HSBC the bank the institution holding the shares with HSBC nominees their custodian arm who acts as an intermediary and holds shares for a third party. It’s important to be clear on the understanding of nominees as you will see it mentioned in many top 20 holdings. In other words that 61% could be owned by anyone. Considering the typical financial structures set up you would most likely find it challenging to find out the complete make up of that 61%. Not saying it’s a bad thing just saying the make up of that 61% may not be all institutional in fact it could be one wealthy peson who is using HSBC as their custodian to hold their shares.
