We probably started this voyage of EMS adventure into the great unknown with the same enthusiasm at about the same time.
Just as your post popped up I had started to liken the path of SUD/EMS to that of a rookie breaking into an A Grade sporting team, similar to AFL, NRL, A League Soccer, ARU or even an Australian State cricket team. The rookie player bursts onto the scene full of dash and flare and courage and the world is at his feet. After a few seasons the rookie is making the National selectors notice and he is noted as one to watch out for in the future. The rookies star is bright and he is on the verge of selection , until, he stuffs a knee in a pre-season friendly and its off to rehab for most of the season. The rookie works very hard in rehab and is as fresh as a daisy for the next year which he successfully navigates without quite hitting the high level that was previously achieved but he would definitely make it the next year after the team has brought some new backroom staff on board. That seems to do the trick for a while and the team makes their Grand Final only to lose in controversial circumstances due to a poor umpiring decision and heckling from the sidelines. Again the feature of the off-season is re-financing the club and setting the stall out to prove that their club and their now ageing rookie are up to one last shot at the Championship and an Australian jersey and to finally seal a Championship ( deal )that will be the legacy of the Club for many years to come.

Jonathan Thurston, of NQ Cowboys, Queensland and Australia fame, could have been that rookie and he showed that even though there was no fairy tail ending he did finish completing the laying of the foundation for an long time legacy.
