60km offshore from Geraldton around the Abrolhos Islands I reckon would add a fair bit to their operating costs compared to our relatively close to shore sea pens in the Spencer Gulf. plus there's a lot of work for them to establish on-shore facilities near Geraldton. And their trial at Pt Stephens in NSW incurred some negative attention from local people when something like 20,000 fish escaped from their cages last year. Expansion of that operation is attracting a fair bit of negative push back on environmental grounds. I would have thought that the waters around the Abrolhos Islands were also fairly environmentally sensitive, being part of the Ningaloo Reef system - but it seems the Dept of Fisheries has been helping out with that issue.
