I am inclined to agree but I do not know much about how takeovers work. I would assume they require access to cheap funding and a solid business that is undervalued in the classic sense (meaning stale but solid long term). Although AMP has upside potential I would think that the regulatory turmoil and apparent difficulties at getting quantifiable facts from management would make this a stock with limited takeover attractiveness.
I was thinking KKR or someone like that might buy it and then spin it off into its 4 key elements which actually could work. THe downside at the moment is that we don't really know what the new regulatory regime is going to look like. I would be surprised to see an Aust suitor from financial services take it over because they are all in the same boat wiht this RC mess.
Whatever happens the current management team have made it abundantly with their actions over recent years that they probably wont be the team to turn this company around.
