Cross-border e-commerce retail imports will continue to be “temporarily regulated by personal items” next year

The extension period of the transitional period policy for cross-border e-commerce supervision will end at the end of this year. Yan Fangli, Director of the Department of Electronic Commerce and Information Technology of the Ministry of Commerce, said that the general idea of “temporary supervision of personal items” will continue next year.

On November 7, at the press conference of “E-commerce Import Promotion and Consumption Upgrading” held during the first China International Import Expo (hereinafter referred to as “Entering Expo”, Yan Fangli said that the Party Central Committee and the State Council attached great importance to the development of cross-border E-commerce. At present, the Ministry of Commerce is working with relevant departments to study and improve cross-border retail import related policies and some post-transitional regulatory programs.

"We will adhere to the principle of encouraging innovation and tolerance, and in accordance with the general idea of 'temporary supervision of personal goods', optimize and improve the regulatory measures, while ensuring the overall stability of the regulatory arrangements." Yan Fangli said.

At the opening ceremony of the first Expo, held on the 5th, President Xi Jinping pointed out that China will further reduce tariffs, improve the level of customs clearance, reduce the institutional costs of import links, and accelerate the development of new modes of new business such as cross-border e-commerce.
