I'm with your argument of principle, just like you and your friends, kin etc didn't kill anybody I didn't kill any aborigines or 'stole' them from their parents. Whatever happened in history, happened in history. You have nothing to apologise for and neither do I.
One thing though the bible is not history it is a compendium of non-fictional stories aound a theme.
