    Hi Andy,

Good to hear from you, I was a little worried there for a while that something had happened to my favourite goldbug.

I was reading an article on gold the other day, it was very amusing, places to hide your gold, not that I have any. The reason I was reading this article was because lots of houses have burned down in California and one guy lost everything. His has had absolutely minimal house insurance and he kept his cash in the safe because he didn't trust the banks, which was very stupid of him. Spontaneous combustion occurred and the cash was destroyed, so I was curious what would happen to gold and silver. It's likely the gold and silver would survive, i.e. it wouldn't melt unless it was a very hot fire indeed, but if the PM is wrapped or stored in paper, plastic or anything else, it would be damaged and worth a lot less, it would have to be melted down again. It also depends on the type and quality of the safe, and then there's the matter of who recovers the safe from the ashes and the degree of difficulty recovering it. It may be the property of the insurance company.

It also touched on the subject of storing PM in safe deposit boxes. If the company concerned goes into receivership, then the contents of the boxes would go to the receiver. A tricky business.

It also mentioned burying gold in the garden, amongst dozens of other places. A while back a man who buried his gold in the garden died suddenly without telling anyone where it was exactly. The family excavated the entire back yard without success.

Anyway, I don't see gold or silver going anywhere anytime soon - apart from Trump's absurd trade war, it's all looking pretty good and the Chairman of the Federal Reserve agrees with me. Gold might get a tiny fillip as the USD takes a breather from its recent bull run, but that's about it. There's so many other ways to protect your assets these days that owning gold and silver is pretty passé.
