In a similar line of thought if there was an issue with dimentia, age, pain, inability to communicate then that is no life, that's just existing. I wouldn't say that is a premature death if there was no future in that instance. Horrible that there was undiagnosed pain for that long though and didn't see the report so don't know the full story but have had family in almost identical scenarios. We shouldn't be focussing on saving people's lives and extending them as much as possible when humans get to that point of existence. It is a sad state for any human to be in. What I think the aged care app would be most useful for would be if euthanasia was legalized in Australia and other parts of the world. No right minded person would ever want to end up in a dementia state where they can't communicate anymore and are left as a vegetable to this terrible disease. Most sane people would say 'if I ever ended up in that scenario I'd take matters into my own hands' but the problem is that dimentia usually creeps in slowly and people always have hope that they will get better or that they're not that bad and then by the point where there's always confusion they simply aren't themselves anymore. Painchek could be used in these instances where human beings are bed bound, unable to communicate and simply existing to determine if they are in pain, either treat the pain or if euthanasia is one day legalized then put these people out of their misery.

Until the problem of underfunded aged care centres and insufficient infrastructure to deal with an aging population is capitalized upon I think the uptake of the dimentia app will continue to be slow. It really is a pity as there's clearly a need for it and places that have implemented it already rave about it but where extra spending is concerned most places that are looking to save money won't bring it in for x amount of beds. Am really, really hoping for updates on the baby app but so far this year there hasn't been much of that and the predicted timeline for testing and commercialisation has been pushed out further.
