gral,
I am also combing through the reports for last 2 years. I am certain there has been reference to the infrastructure being designed for a carrying capacity of 150 m tonnes / year. I will post when I eventually find it. Maybe the tenders from yilgarn and opr will shed more light on this issue when they are submitted tomorrow (friday).
Merrills have always costed freight rates at US$7 (not much diff now with au$) but there has to be a profit in it for the rail/port operator. In any case it seems to me very short sighted to build a multi billion $ system that can carry the tonnages currently identified. Weld range has hardly been touched yet. gbg are hugely promising. gwr look ok too.
I expect they will have a system which can take gradual increases in ore. Perhaps they will use various spur lines etc.
I only hope the tenders are made public so we can assess the value more accurately.
