Wrong. From memory the China stimulus was in Nov 2008. We would have been in recession by then if the gov hadn't acted like it had.

China may have stimulated its economy in 2008 (in fact, it did so in several forms in subsequent years, as well, and it continues to do so today), but the impact on Australia was lagged.

The bulk of the economic activity in Australia that followed the strong commodity prices of 2008/9/10 - namely the development of major new resource projects and the construction of new resources-related infrastructure - only occurred on a meaningful scale between 2009 to 2011.

Now what were you saying about knowledge and causality.

Well, don't take my word for it.

Even the RBA - in an ex post analysis of the performance of the Australian economy during the GFC attributed the resilience of the economy in no small part to the contribution from the boom in the resources sector.

Ask @eagle888; in an earlier post he/she kindly provided some confirmatory information to that end.
