I live in Phuket town, away from the beach by about 20 minutes.
It's closer to my gf's work so that's why we are here.
Patong is pretty hectic and touristy, I don't go there unless I have to.

Rawai beach/Nai Harn area is really nice and has a nice beach, it's down the bottom of Phuket island.
It's also less hectic with mainly expats living down there with a lesser amount of tourists.
There are plenty of longer term 'hotel/apartments' with 1 month+ stays there.
The longer you stay the cheaper it is.
There are 1 bedroom/bathroom rooms there for about $320 to $500 a month, they are simple but nice enough.
There's a good Muay Thai gym down there that I use to train and fight at called Sinbi Muay Thai if you're into that.
