And the penalty for that will be restitution which will mean that ANZ becomes known by everyone to have in effect placed >$1bill short at the absolute bottom of the market.
So the sooner they stop selling whats left & start buying it back the less their losses will be. The losses will be huge anyway.
ANZ will then find that small cap stocks can be very illiquid on the upside as well as on the downside.
Also as every broker in Aust & prob many overseas has the list there might even be a little frontrunning to make their task even harder. It will be difficult to feel sorry for them if this is the case.
